“Digital Media & Active Learning” Conference
Saturday, 8th October 2011, Athens, Greece
Within the ElearningExpo in Greece, http://www.elearningexpo.gr
Scope
In the last few years, various digital media (books, videos, games) are being used more and more in the educational process. They are easily accessible by the student population and the wide public. At the same time, several authoring tools allow users with basic computer skills to make their own creations. The user has in his/her disposal functional new powerful devices such as e-book readers, smart phones, interactive gesture display tablet PCs that offer powerful functionality for interaction with hypermedia content without being very expensive. The use of digital media in education is supported by pedagogical frameworks such as the “3Is: Image, Interaction, Integration” (Asensio and Young, 2002).
The goal of this conference is to highlight modern approaches that concern the exploitation of the digital media into the formal and informal learning settings in order to promote flexible and active learning practices.
Distinguished speakers, i.e. policy-makers, e-learning experts and representatives of NGOs have been invited to present their opinions about the transforming ways of how learners create, access, and use digital media in learning settings, the socio-technical concerns regarding the tools, devices, Web2.0 technologies, and policies that underpin digital media related learning opportunities.
The conference is addressed to educational researchers, teachers, university students, executive managers of private and public educational institutions, school directors, policy makers about training and human resources development.
The Greek Ministry of Education was asked to put under its auspices this conference. It is also included into and linked to the dissemination events of EC funded projects such as EPBCII and RADC.
